"THEY PUBLISHED MY LETTER!!!!!!!!!!"

THE READERS HAVE THEIR SAY
Help Kreutz
CHICAGO -- When will Ron Turner notice that Olin Kreutz can't block oversized nose tackles by himself and figure out Kreutz needs help from the guards or different plays called to keep the defense off balance?
Where were the adjustments in the San Diego game? Why not use an outside run or misdirection play to keep the defensive line guessing? Do the Bears have any sweeps, quick pitches, reverses, fake-reverse fullback lead plays, off-tackle plays, or counter treys (such as the Hogs of Washington Redskins fame) in their offensive package?

Ah Gail!

Paul Bixby , Bears Super Fan
I'm sorry. I didn't realize that all of the women (except for Eileen's sisters) were SuperFan Bloggers. I'm so used to just reading your first names that the last names didn't register with me. Congratulations to all of our SuperLadyFans for getting ink (and I don't mean tattoos - that's Glenn's gig)! :)
I also had a great time blogging with you folks. Some of us got the bye-week blahs and didn't post every week (me) and some posted nearly every day (Kenneth) and some posted in-between, but in all, we had fun. So, Marcus, how did we do? Was your experiment a success?
Let's dance again next year!

Eileen, Bears Superfan
One short day until the big game! Who else has enjoyed all of this coverage. It is so much fun watching the news in the morning to get ready and go to work because of all of the Bears stories and coverage! So unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your thinking) I will not be in Miami for the Big game, but I will be with our Bears in spirit. As will all of Chicago, most certainly.
What does everyone think about the whole Peyton Manning No-huddle, straight-to-the-line-of-scrimmage way of playing. I feel like it is all I am hearing about from the media these days.... "How will the Bears keep up?"
Also, Paul: Glad to hear "Mrs. Bixby" is also a superfan (an elite club, I know)-- and thanks for mentioning the article-- but you missed Lisa! She was featured in there too.
Bear down, Chicago!

They're everywhere!

Paul Bixby , Bears Super Fan
Two of our very own Superfanbloggers, Sue Rhein and Eileen Firstenberger, are featured in a Sun-Times article today. Check it out. They are repping for all the lady Bears superfans out there. My lovely wife Mrs. Bixby (Not Her Real Name) is a proud member of your mighty throng! I wish they had mentioned our blog in the article though. It would be nice if readers could get turned onto the blog, late in the season though it may be. Next year maybe.
I tell you, the buildup to the SuperBowl this week has me all atwitter and sitting on the edge of my seat! I have had no less than three SuperBowl related dreams this week, which is odd because I almost never dream. They were weird dreams though. In two of them, the Bears lost and in the last one, the Bears didn't even beat the Saints and I was attending a Colts-Saints SuperBowl (the Colts won 71-41. by the way). I chalk it all up to my anxiety facing the Colts. I'm fairly confident the Bears will win, but the uncertainty is brutal.
I am a little concerned about Peanut (or Chuckie Tills as the BearsCast guys call him covering Marvin Harrison. All it takes is Peanut slipping once, and it's a huge play. Peanut is a top-notch coverage guy, but the Cover-2 (Lovie-2?) defense opens holes that allow the occasional big play, and I think the front four will lock down the Colts run game so tight that Peyton won't have much choice but to throw.
I look forward to watching the Jones-Benson tag team destroy the recently-vaunted Colts pass rush. I don't think they know what they are in for.
Let's cross our fingers too for "Devine" Hester to really light the Colts Special Team up!
I just can't wait! I'll have my beverage of choice, my Doritos (aka, triangular flakes of cheese-covered luck), my Bears shirt I have worn for 17 straight games, my Honey Bears, my darling wife Mrs. Bixby (Not Her Real Name) and my dad and sister. It's gonna be a loud time in the old home tonight - er, Sunday night!
GO BEARS!

Shame

Paul Bixby , Bears Super Fan
We've had a couple jokes at Indianapolis' sake on here for a few days, and it's all in fun, but I'd like to address something serious here for a moment. Our city's honor has been stained. Thoughtless acts by a few have laid shame at the threshold of our home. The snopes article can be found here.
It seems some of our fellow Bears fans were more than a little rude to the people of New Orleans when they came to visit us. It wasn't enough that we knew that the Saints were coming here to get the Fleurs de Lis handed to them when everyone else claimed they would dominate our Bears at home. No. Apparently some fans took it upon themselves to craft signs that say things like "Bears finishing what Katrina started" and "In the Flood, Noah took the Bears, not the Saints." Even worse, according to John Kass on Wednesday, some fans even accosted a black New Orleans area reported with taunts, a shove, and the n-word.
As a Bears fan, I am ashamed at this behavior. The ignorant punk who slung such scum at our guests were, according to the witness, drunk enough to think it at all appropriate to say such a thing. That is no excuse. It's shameful that what should have been a proud reclamation of the Bears primacy of the NFC was so quickly dashed by the least representative among us.
All the reports I saw prior to the game told how New Orleans fans were impressed with the friendliness of Chicagoans and were amazed by our respect to them for what they had gone through and for the efforts of their teams. Now, unfortunately, the last image these people have returning home is of stone ignorance amongst our fans. I am astounded by the lack of class displayed by these idiots.
On their behalf, and on behalf of all Bears fans, I'm sorry to the people of New Orleans. I'm sorry that some of our citizens and fans can't separate the seemingly high-stakes of a football game from the truly high stakes of Mother Nature's wrath being visited upon your home and hearth. I'm sorry that these jackasses seem to believe that apparent disrespect for our football team justifies actual disrespect for the plight of your city and your people. I'm sorry that our worst element was on display. I'm sorry that we could not be the class act that most of Chicago truly is. Please understand that these morons don't for a second represent the vast majority of our fans and citizens.
I think that, as a society, we have forgotten the useful function of the feeling of shame. Shame is the embarassment one feels at being discovered doing something wrong. It is a hard feeling. It is a painful feeling. It is a feeling that is best experienced infrequently. Too often, we excuse anti-social behavior instead of making the perpetrator feel shame for betraying the trust of society, the contract of acceptable behavior in a civilization. Shame burns so painfully, that one is loathe to repeat the action that brought it on - much like placing one's hand in a fire. The people who did this should be ashamed. We should do what we can to make them feel that burning shame.
If you were the morons who made such disgusting signs or the idiots who said such horrendous things to our guests, shame on you, and I expect your apologies as well - first to the People of New Orleans, and second to me, the rest of the Bears fans, and the rest of your city for bringing such shame upon the rest of us. Because of you, the rest of us must shoulder the burden of your shameful acts. You disgust me.
