Bears on Court Fundraisers
Gail Freund, Bears SuperfanBears on Court has been holding charity basketball games for twenty plus years. An article in the Chicago Tribune by Liam Ford states that Scott Hagel said the Bears didn't know about Bears on Court until recently. Considering Bobby Howard used to play in the basketball game, and other members of the staff and management have been involved with this "off-field" activity, Mr. Hagel needs to come up with another excuse. He also stated that if players didn't show up for an event it could reflect poorly on the Bears. Players scheduled for the Convention don't always show up, and that is a Bears sponsored event.
The Bears organization does not need help in looking bad to the public. This itself is one example. Another recent example was waiting to send out the invoices for the Season Tickets one month late. Naturally, there was an increase. The invoice arrived just after new contracts were given to Lovie and Jerry Angelo. Quite a coincidence.
As for injuries, the Bears organization shouldn't let players help Habitat for Humanity, either. They might get hurt with a hammer and nail.
I've been attending these games for over ten years. My friends and I attend several charitable games each year. We had already planned on attending one each weekend through May. This is not only a wonderful way for schools to raise much needed money, but also for families to actually see players in person. Not everyone can afford to attend games. One of the schools that always holds Bears on Court Basketball games is in Kewanne, Illinois. Do you know how far that is? When we purchased tickets for the Jacobs High School game we were told that the faculty were competing to see who would be able to play.
And what fan doesn't love to see Patrick snap the ball through the basket from center court?
