DOES REX HAVE PEP?
Let's all hope Rex Grossman is fixed and has learned not to go 'into the tank' by new quarterbacks coach, Pep Hamilton. And, has improved his fundamentals, reads, and field vision. I'm reminded of the things John Madden said last New Years Eve about Rex when the Bears played the Packers.
Madden said Rex has three big problems: he makes "bad reads, forces it (ball), and has bad fundamentals". While, the Bears played a bland offense and defense, those three things stand out. And, this sounds like something which has been said of a Florida Gators quarterback in the past, all you have to do is plug in a different name.
I believe the biggest problem the Bears and other teams' have is their infatuation with Gators quarterbacks and the success each had in a great offensive system. Grossman is the third Gator to play for the Bears in recent years, joining Shane Matthews, and Danny Wuerrffel. And, most recently, the just released Chris Leak
Grossman has, in the past, exhibited the same poor fundamentals and lack of consistency as all of the other Gators quarterback. All the quarterbacks may have been serviceable as backups and 'stop-gap' starters, but, building an NFL offense around them has been fruitless. Let's hope 'Dr. Pep' has straighten Rex out.
And, the list of quarterbacks from Florida only reemphasizes my point that they flourished in a great offensive system and fooled NFL scouts into believing they had what it takes to be a star. The list includes: Kerwin Bell, Brock Berlin, Doug Johnson, Ingle Martin, Jesse 'The Bachelor' Palmer, John Reeves, and Chris Leak. Next up, Tim Tebow.
