Good Time to Play KC?

Walter Brzeski, Bears Superfan

My Bears hangover usually lasts until Wednesday after a loss. But, I'm trying to think positive in hopes the Bears will correct their mistakes and notch a huge win over KC. The game against KC will be the 'cure-all' for a team which had a 'blah' offensive attack and a 'worn-down' defense. It's a good thing both KC and Oakland are on the Bears schedule because both teams will have a tough year and will help the Bears regroup.

Some things really stand out from the Chargers game on Sunday and need to be corrected or looked into, they are:

1. Ron Turner needs to get together with Tim Spencer (RB coach) and Harry Hiestand (OL coach) to figure out a way to block the uncovered man bringing pressure on Rex Grossman off the right side. And, they need to do this by avoiding using 'MAX PASS-PRO' too much; which has the fullback in to help the running back protect Grossman. The reason they need to avoid this is because keeping two backs in to pass-pro takes them out of pass patterns and leaves the WRs and TE open to get double-and triple-teamed on their routes: which will lead to Grossman forcing balls into tight coverage.

I suggest the running back have his head on the a swivel and look for unblocked pressure, the uncovered guard or center look to pickup the pressure, or use 'fan' pass pro by the guard, tackle, and end (blocking the man on their outside shoulder and leaving the back to pickup anything inside).

2. Give Ron Turner a roster, have him meet each player again, and have him figure out what that player does best. Plus, find some help for Turner in making faster adjustments.

3. Why did the Bears use the 'shotgun' successfully and then abandoned it in the second half in definite passing situations?

4. Why hasn't any Bears offensive coach figured out when Olin Kreutz is made to block the NT by himself, it means trouble for the inside runs? Either make the guards help him or start developing the outside run. And, when the Bears can't run, they can't use play-action. And, when they don't have play-action, teams can let loose on Grossman and pressure him into brain cramps.

5. Stop going for the big play and instead put together a long drive or two or three which will give their offense some confidence; utilizing a 'nickel and dime' approach going down the field.

6. Bring the LBs on more blitzes.

7. Fine any players $10,000 for a stupid penalty ala Nathan Vasher in roughing Phillip Rivers, which enabled the Chargers to have a 1st and 10 and not 3rd and 10. Vasher should take Tommie Harris out for an expensive dinner for forcing the fumble on the goalline and killing the Chargers drive.

8. Continue to bring more pressure on the punter as it appears teams will try to hang the ball in the air and force Devin Hester to fair catch the punt. And, I would put Bernard Berrian back with Hester as they did on kickoffs with Danieal Manning to eliminate them kicking away from Hester.

If the Bears can adjust and correct these areas I see good things in the future, like Bears 42 Chiefs 10
