Mark Bradley, Bears Super Fan
The Chicago Bears punished the Bills on Sunday! Another Great Game! Rex Grossman completed 15 of 27 passes for 182 yards and 2 TDs. RB Thomas Jones carried the ball 22 times for 109 yards (5.0 ypc) and caught 4 passes for 13 yards. Cedric Benson carried the ball 14 times for 48 yards (3.4 ypc) and 2 TDs. WR Bernard Berrian caught 4 passes for 97 yards and a TD. Rashied Davis caught 3 passes for 41 yards and a TD. WOW!
Robbie Gould aided the cause with four field goals, improving to 17 for 17 for the season.
The Bears totally stuffed the Bills, holding them to 58 yards on 18 carries (3.2 ypc). The Bears allowed the Bills to complete 14 of 27 passes for 87 net yards passing.
Rex Grossman is proving all of his critics wrong and vindicating Coach Smith’s faith in his ability to lead the Bears. The Bears know have a balanced offense that can hurt you with the run or pass. Grossman has completed 78 of 125 passes (62.4%) for 1,061 yards with 8 TDs and 3 INT. Grossman is also adept at not taking sacks as he has only been sacked 3 times. Grossman has a sparkling 100.8 QB rating. If Grossman keeps this up, the Bears are looking like a serious Super Bowl contender
Please forgive me Rex Grossman - For I was proven wrong!
OK - I know this is a week later then most folks jumping on the Rex Grossman bandwagon - Please let me explain why:
1- I wanted to be positive this was not a dream the fact that the Bears have a real Offense. The deciding point was after the Chicago Bears punished the Bills on Sunday! With Rex Grossman completing 15 of 27 passes for 182 yards and 2 TDs. I think he could have had a couple of more TD's.
2- Bears Offense history tends to repeat - Rex seems to be the best Bears QB of modern time and breaking the mold, since McMahon. (312/500, 62.4%, 4244 yds., 32 TDs and 12 INT.) We must also give big credit to the offense line! They are doing a great job of protecting Rex.
For the record - Jim McMahon is my all time favorite Bears QB
3- Brian Griese has a career record of 39-33 (54.2% wins) and a career QB rating of 84.8 and looked real good in the preseason.
4- I'm hoping Mark Bradley gets off the injured list and plays soon, and Rex will toss the ball his way for a few yards.
5- The Bears have posted four wins by 25 or more points during their 5-0 start. The only other team in NFL history with four 25-point wins after five games was the 1941 Bears, who were coming off a 73-0 win over the Redskins in the 1940 NFL championship game and went on to win another title in 1941. 6 - Tough defense was the Bears' hallmark - not the offense
7 - The Chicago Bears have allowed a mere 36 points (7.2 a game) while scoring 156 (31.2 a game) this season en route to their first 5-0 start since 1986.
Date Opponent Result:
Sept. 10 at Green Bay W, 26-0
Sept. 17 Detroit W, 34-7
Sept. 24 at Minnesota W, 19-16
Oct. 1 Seattle W, 37-6
Oct. 8 Buffalo W, 40-7
8 - After scoring the final 17 points in last week's rout of the Seahawks, the Bears took a 40-0 lead over the Bills in Sunday's 40-7 victory. It was the second time this season that Chicago scored at least 50 unanswered points. The last three teams to record two such streaks in the same season all went on to win the Super Bowl: the Steelers in 2005, the Ravens in 2000, and the 49ers in 1994.
9 - An injury-free Grossman and a suddenly high-powered passing game are changing that trend in a big way. The NFC's only unbeaten team went over 30 points for the third time this season and had its highest point total since a 47-17 victory over Tampa Bay in 1993.
10 - This team is starting to look like the 1985 Bears. Maybe a Super Bowl Shuffle video will be made in the not to distant future.
Did you Know: The Bears lead the NFL with 156 points, the most they've scored in their first five games since they tallied 164 in 1989. The 36 points they've allowed are the fewest through five games since they permitted 31 in 1937. Source: ChicagoBears.com
