Mark Bradley, Bears Super Fan
From a blogger's perspective, we have almost run out of material about how great the Bears man-handled the Packers in game one and need some additional material to work with for game two against the Detroit Lions. The game is Sunday in Chicago, home of the Best Defense in the NFL - I might add.
Thank you Mr Roy Williams, wide receiver of Detroit Lions, for a bushel load of material!
For those of you who might have missed it:
Detroit wide receiver Roy Williams entered the guarantee business Monday, declaring that the winner of Sunday's Lions game with the Bears has been determined -- by him, at least."We will win this game," Williams told the media. "Y'all can take that as a guarantee or what not, but we will win this game. You can take that as a guarantee if you want.
It's a bold statement, and football players have given guarantees before... the most notable in this category would be Joe Namath. He is known for guaranteeing his team's upset victory in the third AFL-NFL World Championship Game, over Don Shula's NFL Baltimore Colts.
More perspective on Roy Williams' Guarantee:
"I'm saying when we play the way we are supposed to play, and there's no reason we shouldn't, there's no defense in the league that can stop us. We are our only 'defense.'" Williams stated.
This would be the back peddling - AKA leaving an out for a bold statement...
Especially keeping in mind the Lions managed just two field goals in their last-play, 9-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
"It was stupid how close we were to putting 40 points on the board" Williams stated
OK - This is where I fail to see Mr. Williams' logic!
40 points is like - 5 touch downs and a couple of field goals for 41 points... I see the "6" points from the 2 field goals... I don't see the other 5 touch downs....
I could see a statement like -
"It was wonderful in how we almost scored 10 points in our loss to Seattle"
"We almost had a touchdown in our loss to Seattle"
"We where just shy of double digit score in our loss to Seattle"
The list goes on....
Mr. Williams' words made headlines across Chicago, but they will be dismissed as mere bravado in the face of the Chicago Bears Defense.
