How about those Bears? (Can you say, “Total and complete domination”)?

Yesterday was the 20th occasion that Green Bay and Chicago met for the season opener – the 19th such occasion at Lambeau Field. As a matter of fact, Lovie Smith is the first Bears Coach to win his first 3 games at Lambeau Field. In addition, yesterday’s game was the first shut-out served on a platter to The Packers since 1991. Way to go, Bears!

Grossman and the boys wasted very little time, racking up points on the board. Thanks to some good passing, combined with the good hands of Berrian, Muhammad, Clark, and McKie, the 84 yard punt return for a touchdown by Devin Hester (great block, Mark Anderson), the golden leg of Gould, and our usual bright and shining defense, The Bears showed everyone just who’s who in the NFL. Very, very impressive!

Thomas Jones rushed 21 times for a total of 63 yards, averaging 3 yards per carry, compared with Cedric Benson’s 11 carries for 34 yards, averaging 3.1 yards per carry. Moose caught 6 passes for a total of 102 yards. And, as we all know, Devin Hester had an unforgettable punt return for a touchdown. The Bears defense snagged 2 interceptions in the fourth quarter (thanks to Danieal Manning and Peanut Tillman) to squash any hope that Green Bay may have had of getting on the board late in the game.

Rex ended up being 18 of 26 for 262 yards which was actually better than I expected. Based on what I saw out of him in the preseason, I wasn’t real enthused with his raw talent. Actually, prior to yesterday’s game, I was leaning more towards Griese and couldn’t understand the controversy played out by the media. Hopefully, Grossman can keep his chin up while not getting too over-confident and carry the offense to many more high scoring games. In all aspects, he has a great team behind him, so as long as he can successfully move the offense down the field to score points, we have nothing to worry about!
